A brand-new Southern States Championships is set for Canberra in 2019 as some of the best talent from regional Australia meet in the Capital on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 July.

ANU North Oval will provide the setting for the tournament which has been inaugurated this season and will see teams in the U12, U14, U16 and U18 divisions meeting each other across two-days of competition.

The tournament will have teams from the following states and areas playing:

South Coast and Monaro
Southern Inland
Central West NSW
Tasmania
South Australia
Northern Territory

This is the first year the tournament has been organised and it will continue to evolve to support the objectives of Member Unions and Rugby AU.

These objectives are to increase local opportunities available for players in the XVs format in consultation with our Southern States counterparts.

The tournament will enable the Brumbies Rugby Community team to continue their excellent work with schools and clubs to strengthen links and support retention of Juniors in rugby.

Rugby Australia, and the Brumbies, are committed to provide a clear, connected and aspirational XVs pathway as well as to identify and develop coaches, managers, referees and other officials.

Full details of fixtures will be released shortly.
