ACT Vets will play the Royal Military College (RMC) Rugby Club for the annual Commandant’s Cup and the Paladin Risk Cup this Saturday 19 October at Portsea Oval.

The traditional fixture, sponsored by Paladin Risk Management Services, will be held at RMC Duntroon, with kick-off at 2:00pm.

Inaugurated in 2003, this annual event began when Brigadier Mike Paramor AM was Commandant of RMC, to celebrate the close ties the ACT Vets had, and continue to have, with the staff and cadets of the College.

Interestingly, the RMC Rugby Club is the oldest rugby club in the ACT, and is also one of its most successful, having won 18 1st division premierships, with some of the youngest members, while the ACT Vets are the youngest club in the ACT with the some of the oldest members.

The game allows for the Army's next generation of officers and rugby players to connect with the ACT Veterans Rugby community.

“It is a great privilege for the RMC Rugby Club to play the ACT Veterans Rugby team for the Commandant's Cup and the Paladin Cup,” Captain Lewis Crothers of RMC commented.

“This game allows the next generation of Army officers and rugby players to connect with the ACT Rugby Veteran’s community. We are proud to maintain the history between the two sides and look forward to learning a few old tricks from 'seasoned' warriors. RMC Rugby thanks the ACT Vets for their support in 2019.”

Paladin Risk Management Services’ Managing Director, Rod Farrar was keen to continue his company’s association with the annual match.

“Paladin is once again proud to be the sponsor of the Commandant’s Cup between ACT Veterans and RMC Cadets,” Mr. Farrar said.

“The events association with Menslink and Legacy are particularly relevant to the Defence and veterans community, and the ability to raise money for such worthwhile causes through this annual fixture provides them much needed funds to continue and enhance their important work.”

Due to the generous support of the Vets’ major sponsor, Paladin Risk Management Services, donations will be made to both Legacy and Menslink of $2,250 each.

The Vets particularly thank Rod Farrar for his continued support of the fixture and the ACT Vets in general.
