The best of ACT women’s and men’s club rugby are set to face off in a City v Country exhibition at Portsea Oval this Saturday.

Following a bumper season in the John I Dent Cup, clubmates will turn foes, representing the ACT or the country/city of their birth.

Players born or schooled in the ACT will represent the City sides, while those born or schooled outside of the ACT, will represent the Country sides, showcasing both the homegrown and diverse talent in Canberra club rugby.

Limited numbers are permitted to attend the games at Portsea Oval, but both will be Livestreamed on Bar TV and Brumbies Facebook.

Plus500 Brumbies Deputy CEO & General Manager Community Rugby Craig Leseberg said: “The City v Country concept has been received really well within our community and it’s something we believe has room to grow as well.”

“2020 has been incredibly tough for our clubs across the region, and they have done brilliantly to finish off the season as well as they did.

“This Saturday’s exhibitions are a celebration of that and a chance for us to showcase just how far reaching ACT club rugby is, with players born and bred in Canberra and others from as far away as Argentina.

“Due to COVID restrictions we can’t have a crowd at the game which is disappointing but due to the interest we’ve received for the games we will be livestreaming both fixtures.”
