Following trials at Marist College on Wednesday 7 June, ACT Brumbies U18s and ACT & SNSW Schoolboys squads have been selected.
Comprised from ACT Senior Rugby, ACTJRU and Schools 1st XV competitions, the Brumbies U18s squad sees 12 players return from 2022, including Shane Wilcox, member of the ACT Brumbies Senior Academy and 2022 Australian U18s representative.
Former Head Coach of Marist and Brumbies Pathways Representative Coach, Paul Mead will lead alongside ACT Brumbies Super W forwards coach Mick Burrows, Brumbies Junior Academy Coach and Head of Pathways & Talent ID, Andrew Clark and ACT Brumbies Super W Team Manager Maria Moreno.
Assembled from nine schools across the ACT and SNSW region, the Schools XV squad brings together the best of college talent, led by Head Coach Angus Balmaks, joined by assistant coach and former Brumbies U18s forwards coach Nick Jones, and managed by Rob Smethills Jnr.
Ahead of fixtures in July, the two squads will do some opposed training together, with the U18s doing further sessions alongside the Brumbies Senior Academy.
Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies Head of Pathways & Talent ID Andrew Clark said: “The opposed training and matches present a good opportunity for players to perform at an intense representative level.
“There is plenty of young talent within our region, so with such experienced coaches and support staff, we’re confident these players will be able to learn and put on a good show for Rugby Australia selectors, who will be observing matches ahead of the Australian U18s and New Zealand U18s match in October.
“The 2022 squad defeated a previously undefeated NSW Generation Blue side in the September AIS matches, so we’re looking forward to the potential of this squad and another year of exciting competition.”
