The sun was out, and spirits were high at Simon Poidevin Oval in Goulburn over the weekend, in what was another successful year of representative competition.
Southern Inland Competitions & Rugby Services Manager Jack Heffernan said: “2023 was another great year for the Brumbies Provincial Championships, as we saw 11 teams from Seniors and Juniors converge on Rugby Park in Goulburn for a day of Representative Rugby.
“Thank you to Goulburn Rugby Club and Goulburn Mulwaree Council for supporting this year’s event in various capacities.
“This tournament is the first step in a pathway for our Senior players which leads to the ACT & SNSW Griffins or Kestrels and the opportunity to play in a National Tournament (Australian Rugby Shield).
“There were some big events over the weekend, including the mixture of results between South Coast-Monaro and Southern Inland (Each Zone earning a Win, a Draw and a Loss).
“In the Women’s second year of inclusion in the Brumbies Provincial Championships, the trophy changed hands with Southern Inland taking the win over Monaro.
“Lastly, for the first time in 12 years, Southern Inland would not take the Championship, after being beaten by Monaro in a close margin of 18-12.
“We now look forward to the Country Squads being announced from this Tournament, as they prepare to take on the best of the BentSpoke John I Dent Cup and BentSpoke Premier XVs on 9th September.”
The ACT Brumbies would like to thank the ACT Rugby Referees Association for their support officiating matches, with team members journeying from the South Coast, Wagga Wagga and Canberra.
