The 2025 edition of the Capital Cup will kick-off at Nicholls Enclosed next Saturday, with the region’s best talent lacing up their boots for City and Country.

The City Men have won the contest between their rivals on three consecutive occasions, with their Women’s side also winning the last two renewals. Both Country sides will be hoping to set the record straight this time round.

Tournament Director Joseph Rollings is anticipating two extremely tight and fast-paced matches at Jamison Oval.

“It’s fantastic to see the squads unveiled and is there some real strength in depth in both sets of squads across Men’s and Women’s, with players making an impact in country and city club competitions this season,” Rollings said.

“Country will be looking to pull one back after missing out last year. We’re looking forward to the event and hopefully seeing two entertaining clashes of rugby.”

With the squads revealed today, the City Men’s side contains nine players from the Uni-North Owls Benstpoke John I Dent Cup Premiership-winning side, including captain Sam Mickelson, while their Women’s squad features seven players from Wests Lionesses Premier 15s title-winning squad, with Louise Ferris Medalist winner Jane Morrison taking her place.

Wagga Waratahs won both the SIRU Men's 1st Grade and Women's and they have eight  players in the Men's squad and seven in the Women’s.

The Men’s fixture will kick-off at 3.35pm, with the Women’s fixture beginning at 5.15pm.
