Four teams have emerged as champions from the action packed 2024 South Coast 7s event. Boasting 15 teams competing in Ulladulla across the weekend, there was certainly no shortage of quality junior rugby.
The first team to conquer the competition was the Illawarra Academy of Sport in the Under 14s Girls division. Firing out of the gates, they would manage a 24-0 win over Kiama White in their first match, showing early that they would be the team to beat.
In the following round, Kiama White and Kiama Black would face-off and come to a 12 all standstill, with neither side claiming the hometown bragging rights.
To wrap up the division, IAS made similar work of their second Kiama opponents as the Academy side would clean up a 30-0 win against the Blacks, seeing them head back to Illawarra as champions.
Over to the Under 16s, the Southern Sports Academy proved this was their division early as they would make early statements with a 33-0 win to the boys and a 41-7 victory to the girls.
The girls would go on to take their title with an undefeated status claiming multiple dominant wins.
They boys would later join their club-mates on the podium after losing just one match to the Sydney Fijians, before they took revenge in a 29-20 grand final win.
Finally, to the Under 18s where Griffith would take home the gold following a slow start for the side in Ulladulla. Losing their first match to the excitement-machines in the Sydney Fijians 17-19, Griffith would recompose and go undefeated for the rest of the weekend.
Following their early defeat, the eventual champs would quickly warm up and start showing off some silky displays of 7s rugby. Learning from their initial loss and adjusting quickly, they would go on to win their final three games to top the competition.
