John I Dent Cup Round 4 Preview and stats breakdown

Just days away from Round 4 of the John I Dent Cup we have once again made our deep dive into the stats to see just what makes each Premier see tick.

With even more stats to dive into following the bye week, have your say on who looks the goods early in 2024.

JIDC Round 4 how they stand
  • Tuggeranong Vikings have just pipped Wests to claim top spot on the John I Dent Cup ladder after another big win in Round 3.
  • Securing their second win of the year in Round 3 and a convincing one at that, the Royals have now shot up to third place.
  • Despite being in fourth the Gungahlin side still boast a healthier for and against than the Royals after their big win in Round 2.
  • Still winless, both Uni-Norths and Queanbeyan will have a great chance to start building momentum in Round 4 as the sides come face-to-face.
JIDC R4 Stat Leaders
  • After securing no tries last round, Wests Luke Kilkeary is joined at the top of the try scorers list after Silafono Titiuti of the Vikings nabbed a try double in Round 3.
  • Declan Meredith remains at the top of the point scorers list with 39, which includes a total of 3 tries. Being selected on the Brumbies bench this week, expect a lead change for the top point scorer after Round 4.
  • Both remaining consistent scorers off the boot, and only separated by one point Louis Bartley-Saena and Pedro Rolando continue edging closer to the top spot.
JIDC R3 Points
  • Wests remain the most dangerous offensive side, but by a fine margin as another big win from Tuggeranong sees the side close the gap at the top to just 2 points.
  • Still behind the pack by a noticeable margin Uni-Norths and Queanbeyan have a 21 and 43 point gap respectively with the Royals who are the fourth best scorers.
  • Having a much better week in Round 3, Queanbeyan scored 47.3% of their total points in the previous round alone.
JIDC R4 Kicks at Goal
  • With the most points off the boot so far, Wests lead the charge with 14 conversions undoubtedly a result of their try scoring ability early in the season.
  • The Royals are just 3 points behind Wests points tally off the boot however as the side has a total of 6 penalty goals which is 3 more than any other side in the competition.
  • The Whites also struggle in the kicking category from limited opportunities, having just 6 conversions and 1 penalty goal.
JIDC R4 in depth
  • The only team still perfect off their own scrum feeds is the Royals, winning all 23 off their scrums so far.
  • A tie at the top of lineout successes is between the Vikings and Royals both with an 89% success rate, the best ini the competition.
  • Remaining at the top in more categories is the Royals with the side boasting the most turnovers (22) and line breaks (9) in the John I Dent Cup.
  • Tuggeranong remain the most willing to put boot to ball in play with 71 total kicks ini play for the side.
  • Tuggeranong also however have the worst discipline so far with 86 conceded penalties, 21 more than the next most offending side in Queanbeyan.
JIDC R4 Cards
  • After Round 3, Uni-Norths currently are the most carded team which includes the competitions only red card so far.
  • Gungahlin so far have the best discipline, only being shown the dreaded yellow once this season.
  • Royals, Vikings and Lions so far all have 2 yellows, which is seemingly average for the competition thus far.
JIDC R4 Last 5
Uni-Norths Owls v Queanbeyan Whites
  • Our match predictor for this face-off gives Uni-Norths the advantage but only just. Uni Norths are given the 53% winning odds to Queanbeyan's 47%.
  • A home game for Uni-Norths may not have much impact for the side as since 2015 their home field advantage sits at 49% since 2015.
  • In the sides last 5 competition matches they both have 4 losses, with the only difference being Uni-Norths have 1 win compared to Queanbeyan's 1 draw.
Gungahlin Eagles v Tuggeranong Vikings
  • The match predictor gives a strong advantage to Tuggeranong with a 69% winning chance compared to Gungahlin's 31%.
  • Still attempting to bring up their home field advantage, Gungahlin currently still flaunt just a 38% record at home since 2015.
  • Vikings have won 4 of their last 5 competition matches, with the only loss being against Gungahlin in the 2023 Grand Final, meanwhile the Eagles are just 3 wins from their last 5.
