34 teams will converge on Perce Douglas Memorial Playing Fields across 11-14 July for the fourth instalment of the Southern States Junior Rugby Championships.
This year’s participants include 12 girls and 22 boys teams from Tasmania, South Australia, Northern Territory, Western Australia, Illawarra, ACT (ACTJRU) and Southern New South Wales (South Coast-Monaro & Brumbies Country).
While Victoria, reigning champions of the U12s, U14 Girls & Boys and U18s Girls divisions, will miss this year, 2023 sees the inclusion of Western Australia (U16s & U18s Girls), Tasmania (U18s Girls) and Southern Cross Barbarians (Tasmania & SNSW U16s Girls).
The Coach Mentor Program continues thanks to ACT Brumbies Coach Development Manager Sam Norton-Knight, who will facilitate personal mentorship for all Head Coaches to further the coaching experience and in turn impact the players in a positive way.
Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies Rugby Development Manager, Lachlan Creighton said: “After a successful tournament in 2022 we are excited to be back hosting the Southern States Championships.
“With junior competition well underway, this tournament presents a great opportunity for teams to play against new competitors and for coaches from around the country to gain one-on-one mentorship.
“As the majority of teams return, we also welcome the inclusion of Western Australia, Tasmania and Southern Cross teams which will bring some fresh competition to the girls divisions.
“A special thank you to the Gungahlin Eagles for hosting us at their grounds and to all those who will assist in facilitating the day.”
