The Capital Sevens returns this Saturday, 21 February, bringing a festival of blistering speed, silky skills, and electric sideline atmosphere to the Bungendore Sports Hub.
Hosted by the Bungendore Mudchooks, the day promises a massive celebration of rugby in the region. Kicking off from 9:00am, this year’s seniors-only tournament is shaping up to be an absolute cracker. With the region’s premier sides descending on the paddock, fans can expect "all gas, no brakes" action in the fast-paced sevens format.
Rugby Sevens is a brutal test of fitness, with shorter halves and limited margin for error, rugby sevens demands speed, fitness and sharp decision-making. One missed tackle or brilliant step can change everything.
Matches will run in a round-robin structure before the top teams progress to the finals later in the afternoon, ensuring every contest carries significance.
The Wests Lionesses arrive in Bungendore with serious credentials. Fresh off claiming last year’s Premier 15s title, they will be looking to translate that dominance into the abbreviated game. However, standing in their way are the defending Capital Sevens champions, the Tuggeranong ViQueens.
In the Men’s competition, the Uni-Norths Owls are the team to watch, eager to carry the momentum from their BentSpoke John I Dent Cup victory into the open spaces of the Sevens pitch. They’ll face stiff competition from last year’s sevens titleholders and opponents from the 2025 JID Grand Final, the Tuggeranong Vikings. Both sides boast big-game experience and will be desperate to add the 2026 Sevens crown to their trophy cabinets.
With a scorcher of a day expected on the sidelines, spectators are reminded to be sun smart: Slip, Slop, Slap, seek shade where possible, and stay hydrated as you enjoy the footy.
From the opening whistle to the final showdown, the 2026 Capital Sevens festival promises high-tempo rivalries and a fantastic day out for the whole community.
