The ACT and Southern NSW Rugby Union join our friends across the Canberra region in mourning the loss of David Fryer.
A stalwart of rugby in the ACT, David made significant contributions to refereeing, officiating more than 300 matches, and earning Life Member status with the ACT Rugby Referees Association in 2008.
Later, in recognition of his efforts, the David Fryer Trophy was inaugurated in 2017 to be awarded each year to the most effective Referee Coach as voted by the members during the season.
His remarkable legacy and knowledge is encapsulated through the authorship of ‘Refereeing in Practice” published by World Rugby [formerly The International Rugby Board], a text that has informed generations of referees around the world.
A passionate, engaging and nurturing teacher, he will be remembered fondly.
