Round 5 of the BentSpoke John I Dent Cup competition is set to play host to a clash between the battling Western District Lions and the up-and-down Gungahlin Eagles.

Certainly the biggest wildcard of the weekend's fixtures, as nobody knows just where to place these two sides at this point in the season. Though Wests are winless they have a combined loss margin of just eight points and have enjoyed dominant patches in each of their matches. On the other hand, the Eagles have claimed a win in 2025 but look just as unpredictable as their opponents this weekend.

Wests captain Ryan Kiely and partner in crime Ioelu Pisu will be key this weekend if Wests want to win the battle up front. They will be key to Wests success as both individuals have put out strong performances since Round 1, though have just fallen short of nabbing a win thus far.

Kiely has starred in the last few weeks games, earning him in the Team of the Week both in Round 1 and 2 to start the season, leading his Wests forward pack around the park with his dominance in defence and strong running game.

Gungahlin skipper Clay Uyen will provide the spark needed to get his Eagles side flying high as the experienced centre tends to have his mark all over Gungahlin's best attacking raids.

Yet another physical and tough match for both squads, it's anyone's guess who will win this one, though we can expect a physical and tight contest all the way to the final whistle.

Clay Uyen

Gungahlin's veteran who can play anywhere in the backline is set to start at 12 this week and will help his young side out with tough carries and will need to stay on top of this big Wests pack. His lightning speed and big body causes threats all around the park and will be massive for the Eagles success this weekend.
