Saturday, 30 May, marked a special occasion for the ACT Rugby Referees Association and ACT Premier Rugby history, as Brodie Ingram officiated his 100th First Grade game.
Coincidentally, it was also the Match of the Round, and the Bob Hitchcock Territory Shield clash which added even more gravitas to Ingram’s appointment.
Ingram started his rugby journey at school, playing for Canberra Grammar School's 1st and 2nd XVs teams, as well as representing the ACT at the junior representative level. While still playing, he commenced refereeing as a 13-year-old. He officiated junior matches before making the leap to the senior competition at age 17, taking charge of the 2013 Fourth Grade Grand Final.
Three years later, at 20, Ingram made history as the youngest official to take the whistle in a John I Dent Cup Grand Final, presiding over the 2016 clash where the Royals took on Easts Rugby Club. He has since gone on to officiate three more grand finals in the competition.
Beyond that, Ingram’s resume includes the following notable appointments:
- Referee: Three Shute Shield matches
- Referee: Australia A vs NZ Schoolboys & Samoa vs Australian Schoolboys
- Referee: Three National Championships
- Referee: Hong Kong China vs ACT Brumbies
- Match Official: British & Irish Lions Tour Canberra (2013 & 2025)
When asked what is on the horizon for the centurion, Ingram noted:
“With the World Cup coming up, there’s some stuff that we’re trying to aim for. It’s unfortunate that Canberra doesn’t get a World Cup game, but Adelaide has about six or seven games... so we’re trying to get a couple of games down there.
“World Cup stuff would be pretty cool to get around.
“I did some British & Irish Lions work last year, and that was amazing, so I think a World Cup would be unreal.”
The ACT & SNSW RU and ACT Premier Rugby would like to congratulate Brodie on this massive achievement, and we hope to see him reach more milestones in the years to come.
